Interesting thread posted a while ago then forgot thread title! Still here though Diabetic 54 years, using Omnipod and now libre. Due to hypos / reduced awareness . Still trying to loose weight but no success treating hypos glucose and jelly baby’s not helping. Thinking of trying to reduce carbs to under 50 a day. Any ideas have seen lots of low carb recipes but seem to be loaded with cheese / fat - which is what I wish to loose!
Was soooooo nice thou :)

Hi I will tag @Mel dCP as she has reduced her carb intake a lot and who has had some issues regarding fat content in foods, I hope that's correct Mel.

Hello, I'm not the hugest fan of cheese either, however you can opt for protein. So meats or fish if you like those. I'm not such a fan of either, I opt for vegan protein such as tofu - firm or silken, tempeh, seitan - @WuTwo has a fantastic seitan recipe but in general her recipes are fantastic and I think she does low carb but vegan. If you like chick peas, I think they are very good too. I weigh my chick peas and find that 50g of chick peas is very moreish, very good with a salad. I also love alpro yogurt and strawberries in the morning. Sometimes I do a vegan coffee and cream and I'm not hungry until noon-late noon. I think with the hypos, you have to address them first. I know there was a time I put on loads of weight because of hypos. Once I tackled that issue, the weight came off naturally. Thats when I only eat when I'm hungry. My weight has been stable with that kind of regime, hypos need to be treated when it happens. But it's been happening far less now :) Best of luck to you!

Thanks I looked at low carb/ no carb diet but so many ingredients needed unknown or unused by me before. Some recipes not liked by others Also I’m quite busy and cooking for family too so makes it harder. Will look at references . Feeling that now mature Diabetes centre so busy they haven’t got time to help by sitting and having a discussion.

I eat <20g cab a day, and around 1200 cals, and have managed to put ON weight, so I’m not the guru here! Bloods are great though...

Eating fat does not necessarily make you fat.

Just like eating meat does not necessarily make your muscles grow.

If you're worried about cholesterol etc. that's another thing. But a lot of people who eat Low Carb High Fat lose quite a bit of weight.

I lost 7kg over 4 months this year, despite eating a large slice of my keto quiche (almost pure cheese, cream and egg) each morning. I also eat a lot of vegetables, and some meat. You can make "voodles" out of zucchini, and go crazy with the broccoli (good in soups) and cauliflower.

Hi. Fat doesn't make you fat. We've all been mislead by statements that you need to reduce fat intake to lose weight. In fact its the carbs that are the big problem so reduce those to help control weight. There may be other issues which we can't be aware of but do keep the carbs as low as you reasonably can making sure you reduce your insulin if needed to match.
