Hi C1a1r319
I am on about 30g carbs per day and I need to bolus for protein at about 50%. My basal went down by about 20% when I switched to low-carb, so I wonder if you are covering your protein with your basal. A quick basal test would be to see if your BGs are level overnight.
Yes, if your ratio is 1:10 for carbsWhat do you mean 50%? Like 30g protein so 1.5u? Or 1u for 20g?
Claire
Eggs bacon cooked in butter with mushrooms and 1 tomatoel am t2 so insulin wise no help but diet wise am a lchf and about eat about 30g carb a day.
Please give us an idea of your meals.
lt could be you are not eating enough fat.
Protein wise the advice is 1gram/kg body weight.
Ok I will try this. I guess it's just a case of experimenting. Would be so much easier is I wasn't diabetic. Also bear in mind that protein breaks down more slowly than carbs, so you may need to bolus a bit later or do a dual wave (or whatever it is with pumps)
The gluconoegenesis from protein seems to apply more if you are below 50g carbs per dayMy blood sugar are rarely below 14 when I checkit's confusing me because my nurse said nothing effects it apart from crabs.im from uk and I have noticed that the whole protein effecting blood glucose isn't commonly spoken about, but for me there is a big spike with protein if I don't eat carbs.
It would be worth upping your fat and lowering protein. I'm on 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbsOk I will try this. I guess it's just a case of experimenting. Would be so much easier is I wasn't diabetic.
I'm trying toget into ketosis... (Not ketoacidosis) not working with glucose high all the time
Oh... I wasn't aware of that. The fatty food is actually what I enjoy more than the protein so that wouldn't be too hard for me. It's just difficult watching the protein as well ad the carbs...It would be with upping your fat and lowering protein. I'm on 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs

Yes ... I put the new percentages in the goals bit on the app. It's a fantastic app for all that. My calories are 1500 so it's not many carbs with that percentage. I will just try to stay under 40, but lower my protein and in increase fat.Do you use myfitnesspal to keep track of your nutrition?
I get through lots of yoghurt, butter, cream, coconut oil, nuts
What I read is type 1s should never be on Metformin, and especially Metformin and insulin. Next is counting carbs is not that accurate, even for a type 1. Something you are eating may be spiking your blood sugar, but stress and things like allergies, etc. can also do it. I'm a nutritionist and I treat diabetics so the best advice I can give you is to get a book on the glycemic loads of foods. A great one is The Easy GL Diet Handbook by Fedon Alexander Lindberg. The only food that will raise your bloodsugar is carbs. Eating more protein or fiber should actually lower your need for insulin, This is true for a type 2 because protein causes your body to produce insulin, but if there is no carbohydrate, this can actually lower blood sugar. Not sure for type 1 but it may increase your need for insulin a bit. In America we are averaging less than 15 grams of protein a day, this is way too low and about the same for fiber.Hi, I'm new on here so apologies for any mistakes.
I am a type 1 diabetic using the pump and I take 2 x 500mg Metformin XR a day. I also have PCOS.
I started a very low carb diet a month ago. This is generally below 50g carbs a day. Before I started this my Basals were fine and give or take a few my bloods were in a good range mostly. Since starting this diet my Basals have increased (I haven't done a basal test, just increased) I'm continuously correcting and rarely below 10.0 mmol/l (180mg/dl)
My question is do you have to take insulin for protein, if so what is the amount e.g 1u/10g.
I'm doing this to lose weight, but I haven't lost any due to the fact my glucose are continuously high and I'm putting more and more insulin in me
