Low carbers

Trouble is with me that eating out is so rare I have to have the largest pudding going (normally for 2 to share!!) ..... I guess thats why we don't go out often(??) perhaps twice a year? Normally puddings at home are only once in a blue moon too.. When friends come round for dinner.

Never crave the next day though...

I am another that doesn't test when I eat out. I don't take my meter with me. I know I will spike if I eat too many carbs, so no point in knowing by how much. What purpose would it serve? I just try to be sensible and avoid desserts. I certainly will not be testing my Christmas dinner! Having said that, I don't eat out very often, so I guess it doesn't matter much.

Unless I've gone to bed because we ate too late, I always test. whatever the score, "knowledge is power". I don't find that finding I can tolerate anything in particular has sent me on a feeding frenzy, and not have I found myself to be transfixed into eating less over the coming days either if my short term numbers are higher than I like.

Interestingly, we are meeting friends for lunch tomorrow and they have chosen Italian, which would be me least favourite genre, but that's how it goes. I'll decide on the hoof what I'll have. I doubt I'll have pasta for a Sunday Lunch, but haven't tried it for ages. We'll see.

If I've eaten something 'dodgy', I always intend to test.

But, nowadays, i usually only eat dodgy food in unusual circumstances, and very often, part of the unusualness is being in situations where testing is awkward or the meter isn't to hand.

One of my failings is that I love Italian, so it is a case of trying to limit the damage. It sounds daft but certain shapes of pasta seems to spike me more than others, penne is a real problem, whereas tagllietelle isn't too bad (it has been suggested that some pasta contains egg and some doesn't or that the sauce has to have a different consistency). I also try to go for a cheese sauce, or a tomato sauce with plenty of added cheese to up the fat levels and hopefully level off the spike.

I have found one or two pasta ready meals that I can eat with out having a problem and while a ready meal may not be the best option they do stop portion creep. Even the total carbs listed don't tend to indicate if it will spike me or not it is a case of try and test.
