Low Carb'ing - Does it change your tastes?

MH and I have been low-carb'ing for about 2 weeks now. We are being flexible as a little bread or a few crackers don't affect his BG levels, neither does fruit in moderation. I haven't had any starchy carbs as I don't miss them, so it's easier for me to cut them out.

What I have found is that sweet things taste much sweeter.....yesterday I had a pear and three strawberries (not at once) and they tasted so sweet as to be almost artificial. I've also had to stop putting my usual half a level teaspoon of demerara in my coffee as that's far too sweet now too. Most other things taste normal though. I'm wondering if this is why I have a problem with sweeteners - I can still taste them many hours after eating - and no one else can.

Anyone else found this?

Sugar or sweeteners would leave a horrible taste in my mouth, I do think when you cut-out sweet things from your diet your taste buds do change, I picked up the wrong coffee at work which had sugar in and felt physically sick afterwards :(

2 weeks of low carbing for me too and anything sweet is overwhelmingly sweet in my mouth. even fruit

Quite a normal reaction then...phew! I've always been a bit sensitive to sweeteners but this is silly now. Probably not a bad thing...only I have to make birthday cake (my youngest is 15 today) so I'll have no idea what the frosting will taste like in reality as it will taste revolting to me. Oh well!
