You all say look for low carbs, what should I look for per 100grms, and are Marks and spencer ready meals to high ???

I avoid all ready meals as they contain all kinds of processed rubbish. The healthiest way is meals made from scratch using fresh veg, salad, meat and fish. You are better off giving your self a daily carb total, and building your day's menu's around that. If you cut out or cut down bread, potato's, rice, pasta, wheat based products, and processed foods, then you will be making huge inroads into reducing your carb intake daily.

I just look at total carbs per item. You will need to work out yourself how many carbs per day/meal you can tolerate by testing :)

I'm with Defren. Pretty much since we discovered low carbing we have not had any processed food; everything is cooked from scratch; meat, veg, eggs, cheese, fruit etc. Even though I do like our 'healthy' food, ti sometimes would be lovely to pour out a bowl of cornflakes and pour some milk on rather than cook bacon and eggs or chop up fruit etc. Breakfast previously could be prepped and tidied up in less than 5 minutes, now it's out with bacon, scramble some eggs, chop and fry some tomatoes or mushrooms, get all packs of berries out of fridge, chop strawbs, add greek yoghurt, cream, clean and wash all pans and chopping boards etc etc - 15 mins or so!! Thankfully I don't work so can faff around all day if necessary.

Pretty much all the ready meals are too high, due to added (unnecessary) sugars and salts. If you prepared the identical meal yourself you would bring the carbs down quite a bit.

If anything is over 5gs of carbs per 100gs I try to avoid it. M&S do some nice Indian ready meals that are pretty low in carbs which Ive had for lunch if I just cant think of anything else, or just don't have the time to prepare anything , but as has been said, just watch what else is in them.

We all need to learn the glycemic loads of foods. Here is a little book that will save much suffering and death:
The Easy GL Diet Handbook by Dr. Fedon Alexander Lindberg. I give this book to all my patients, diabetic or not. It's the most important book you will ever read and can restore your health and save your life.
