Because I need to lose several stones in weight I have been eating diet greek yogurt and diet fruit yogurt. Is this the right thing to do?

Hi Deb60,

May I suggest that you read the labels side by side to compare carbs? By locarbing it's normally the Full Fat versions we choose as they have a lower carb content compared to low fat versions. Weight loss is the normal side effect of doing a low carb Diet, high Fat and medium Protein. I hope that this helps?

Thanks Vern. As someone who has spent their adult life trying to lose weight, I am conditioned to choose the low fat version of everything! As I am several stones overweight this obviously doesn't work for me!!! I am trying to low carb although I am still eating a couple of new potatoes and porridge oats most days, oh and dark rye ryvita. I am avoiding bread and crisps which I love. I am also walking 3 miles most days.

Hi Deb60
The best advice that I can give you Deb is buy an ATKINS book and follow the Atkins diet virtually to the book.

I was diagnosed about 11 weeks ago and it has worked for me....Doc says he doesn`t want to see me for a year and just to keep doing what I am doing...
I`ve lost 2 stone and my HbA1C test is down from 70 to 48 in eight weeks.
I hope you read this, it works well.

Hi. I have Irish Yogurts fruit yogurts which are 0%/0% and use sweeteners. Low-fat low-sugar yogurts are a rare commodity in the UK but on the continent there is a good choice; why?

Hi Deb,

I can't remember where I read it but when I was researching I remember reading that many believe that the massive increase in diabetes cases has been caused by research in the 80s when everyone was told they had to choose a low fat diet and that saturated fats were bad and caused heart disease etc etc etc... Apparently there wasn't even any proper evidence of this?

Going low fat to high carb is accused of being like a really bad thing apparently because a lot of fat is good and useful whereas carbs a more a modern commodity and unnatural? No idea if this is true and I personally couldn't live on the Atkins diet but I have definitely dropped carbs and changed any i do have to low GI and switched to high fat, medium protein and even I've lost about 7lb when I didn't really need to so it must work because the less weight you carry the harder it is to lose yet reducing and switching these carbs seems to have done the trick :-)
