I didn't necessarily believe that a Low GI diet would actually do something. I was diagnosed in April after blood sugar reading of 10 and 8.5. I have read the books about kick starting your pancrease, etc but took it with a very small grain of salt.

I have been on a strict low gi diet and just got HBa1c of 4.2. My GP said 'No medication just stay on your diet'. I do take Chromium picolate as a mineral , I wonder if that helped? Also my cholesterol went down as well. : :D

Hi devoncat and congratulations on your HbA1c, thats terrific, your diet has obviously worked very well for you so stick with it.

As for chromium there seems to be some disagreement as to how effective it is, some people swear by it while others say they tried it and it did nothing, personally I've never tried it so have no opinion one way or the other.

I've never taken any supplement apart from cod liver oil for arthritis not that I have noticed any improvement  I tend to think that they're a waste of time and money unless you have been told following a blood test that you are deficient in a particular vitamin or mineral. I'd rather spend my money on a balanced diet to ensure that I wont not be deficient in any vitamins in the first place :D
