Low Glucose

I think the pertinent part of the original post is " i tested this lunchtime".
You were ready for food, simples.
Your readings over the last 2 weeks have been fantastic, in the non diabetic range. So why would you not react like a non diabetic when needing sustenance. the phrase "i need to eat my sugars are low" has been very widely used throughout history.

Yes I have been educated by some great people on here so thank you to one and all.

Next time I will enjoy being in 3s if it ever happens again.

Tested 4.8 this morning so I must be doing something right.

Trouble is since December diagnosis have cleared out pretty much anything heavy in carbs from cupboards.
No way was I expecting to get a reading that low so hoping it's a one off else will have to speak to the nurse.
Was diagnosed T2 so would readings this low suggest something else?
I did have a few gin and tonics last night of that has any effect?

Alcohol can lower blood sugars, usually the day after drinking them.

Been getting readings last couple weeks between 4.9 and 5.8 which is great.
Tested this lunchtime and 3.8 and 3.7.
Those low readings concerned me so done more just now and 3.4 and 3.3.
Should I be concerned?
Just crammed some dairy milk down my throat in case!!!
Any reading of 4 or less is a diabetic hypo. These low readings which might happen often, this can lead to heart attach or stroke. When I have readings below 4 I adjust my insolin dose. I also have 300m bottles of regular coke inthe fridge. I find this brings my level up fairly quickly. My doctor is aware of this

I'm not on insulin and managing T2 with diet only so have been reassured by previous posters for me to have occasional low readings is not an issue.

Alcohol consumption will drop your blood sugars. I have stopped drinking alcohol because of the lows I got having a drink. Like you I drink G&Ts. I have a fine collection of different gins which will remain a fine collection for the foreseeable future!

In all my experience on this forum and obviously reading about my condition and searching for knowledge.
I have never heard of a diabetic hypo.
A hypo is a hypo!
It is low blood glucose levels. Which for many is below 3.5 (ish) depending on the individual and the condition.
T1s reference is below 4mmols, this is to suit the condition to be above normal levels. Though again, the individual can be happy in normal levels.
T2s can be happy below 4mmols, with no symptoms and usually driven down by meds. Again individuals are able to get no symptoms. Sugar crashes, false hypos are the result of rapid blood glucose levels dropping. For many reasons.
It is unusual that T2s go below 3mmols, unless it's meds or has another condition that effects BG levels.
Hypoglycaemia, can occur in non diabetics. And there are a few types of Hypoglycaemic conditions.
And hypoglycaemia can be a precursor to T2 diabetes, as hyperinsulinimia, high circulating insulin levels and insulin resistance can be the cause of not treated by dietary intervention.

Tin hat on!

I just read your post now. I have times like that, too. I'm low carb and it still goes either way. Today before lunch my BG was 9.9. I dosed 1.5u and ate my low-carb lunch. I took my dog for a walk for about 65 min. and tested when the timer went off. 14.1! So, frustrating. Trust me, I carry Dairy Milk with me everyday and everywhere I go. Hope you get this figured out. Take care.

I was dx'd Type 2 in March 2017 (age 69). Went low carb and no meds until May 2019. I ended up in the ER in a very serious DKA episode where blood tests showed I was actually T1. I'm still low carb, but it's been a roller coaster ride ever since trying to get it right. I'm now 75. I'm thinking I probably will never get it right. Diabetes is sooooo unpredictable.

Hi,

Can you provide a linked source to where you heard this, please.

As an insulin dependent T1 I’ve tested my BP during hypos. Slightly elevated as you would running for a bus. However. After nearly 47 years of this shenanigans & having uncountable “doozies” in my time. I’m still here!
