I believe Lucozade reduced the glucose in the drink fairly recently. Type 1's will know.Hi All
I recently had OGTT done in a private clinic in Scotland but instead of 75g of glucose, they have given me 380ml Lucozade to drink. I thought it was weird ... Even during the test I have asked for confirmation if that drink had needed amount of glucose. The receptionist replied that it was all correct and overlooked by the specialist. Ok, I thought maybe I`m being paranoid. When I got my results they were bizarre. My glucose level after 1hr was actually lower than fasting. When I requested more info about the drink - I got that I drank 380 ml Lucozade orange that has less than 32 carbohydrates total. 75 grams of glucose is 71.3 grams of carbs so basically I only got half of the required dose. When I questioned that I was told that there is no error and the test was done correctly... I feel a bit like I was scammed or maybe I`m wrong? I would very much appreciate your input.

I’m type one and I always used Lucozade as a hypo treatment , however the glucose/ sugar content is vastly reduced now. In fact all the non diet drinks have had their glucose content reduced , almost all except coke cola,! As a result I now use the mini cans of coke cola as they contain the exact amount recommend for a hypo ie 150g of carbs
Oops where did that zero come from should be 15 g , that would be some mini can of cola eh , doh150gr? I wonder if that's a typo?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Was your OGTT a two hours test?
Have you had a previous diagnosis?
I have had six extended OGTT and every time I had 75g of pure glucose (yuk!) I cannot understand why they used lucozade (even yuckier!) because the recipe for the drink has been changed in the last year or so, I would imagine that because of this that the template for the new lucozade has not been researched enough for any useful information would come out of the test.
What was your fasting levels?
How long did you fast? Because if you were tested for T2, sometimes you don't have to fast!
What was the reading that you mentioned, when you were lower.
Keep safe
Quite possibly. In Poland where I`m from we always just use pure glucose for that test.I believe Lucozade reduced the glucose in the drink fairly recently. Type 1's will know.
i think I would be writing to the clinic and the supervising consultant supplying them with links to the nutritional info of the reduced sugar Lucozade, and explaining that they need to review their procedures, change Lucozade and re-run any tests they have done with the wrong stuff - including yours - for free.
I thought you might want to tweak that one.
150gr would be quite a hypo-hit!
Hi,
Somebody else on the forum did an oral glucose tolerance test recently & had the same issue regarding the questioning of the reduction of the about of sugar in Lucozade in the amount taken for the test?
I'll try & locate the topic then get back to you with a link..
Reportedly, they have reduced the sugar. Other topics regarding this with T1s as esential hypo treatment..
Never been my number one go to, myself..

My OGTT was with Lucozade. My blood sugars went above 30 mmol/l and stayed there for ten hours.Hi All

3 years ago. I remember thinking it tasted better than the sugar solution they usually give you.Thank you for your reply. Was it done recently?

I only drank a small plastic cup worth, not the entire bottle. If you were struggling to process sugar, it would have been enough.I see. I think the Lucozade formula might have changed since then. If they have given me enough of Lucozade to provide the required amount of glucose I would accept that, but I was only given 380ml
