I thought the GGT was no longer being used? Surely a random finger prick test would typically show if someone was in the diabetic range and then an HBA1C test could be done. Even the latter can be done quickly. When I had an operation at a private hospital they did an on-the-spot HBA1C test on a small desktop machine which took about 10 minutes. The GTT should be consigned to history.
It's a way to see if you have a phase 1 insulin response, or just phase 2 as I had.

It is used for different purposes, not just how surgeries in the UK use it.
I am sure there are also different criteria used in different countries.

That`s interesting. It shows how little I know. Thank you

Hi All :)

I recently had OGTT done in a private clinic in Scotland but instead of 75g of glucose, they have given me 380ml Lucozade to drink. I thought it was weird ... Even during the test I have asked for confirmation if that drink had needed amount of glucose. The receptionist replied that it was all correct and overlooked by the specialist. Ok, I thought maybe I`m being paranoid. When I got my results they were bizarre. My glucose level after 1hr was actually lower than fasting. When I requested more info about the drink - I got that I drank 380 ml Lucozade orange that has less than 32 carbohydrates total. 75 grams of glucose is 71.3 grams of carbs so basically I only got half of the required dose. When I questioned that I was told that there is no error and the test was done correctly... I feel a bit like I was scammed or maybe I`m wrong? I would very much appreciate your input.
Hello I have started a new way of doing when I have hypos as I am more lower than higher I have 75 ml of coke they told me my nurses to get rid if Lucozade as makes you bounce back to high and Ribena as that’s to low I have the coke and my son has two or three jelly babies I have fruit pastilles as we were told you need a quick fix and 15 mins tests Afterwards have proved very good 8-2 ,8-6 , 8-4 , I have had one at 11-1 but works very well and less worry of being 15-4 / 20-9 for bouncing back I have had diabetes 52 yrs and kept safe and HBA1has been 6 - 1 /7-5 for 32 yrs I was told last year I was to strict with it all but am in recovery of breast cancer and it’s been very hard as am left on my own with it all as all are aftercare has stopped tests have been higher as been I’ll with various things since September before I haven’t been able to have the flu jab for 3 yrs can’t have when having chemo and radiation and been to ill to have it afterwards it a very lonely time trying to deal with it all And the chemo has damaged my body thighs knees and heels and I have a fracture in the bottom of my spine that’s never healed As you mentioned the Lucozade the government have told all the makers of sugary drinks to cut the sugar content because of obesity in two many people and they put the tax on for the sugar drinks but didn’t give a thought of people with diabetes so we get screwed to having to pay the sugar tax I am stating to get 57 cans from farm foods for £ 21/24 pds it’s three trays And putting the coke if I go out in a water bottle as easier than a can as can’t do my shopping with it in my hand And if you can find something sugary like jelly babies or fruit pastilles that will help You and all this new info is from the DAPHNE DIET Jane moore
