I have just started to split my Levemir into two doses, (Morning and night) but I've just gone and injected the full amount I used to do at night right now (28 units, when I was only meant to do 12 units). I've never given myself this much in the morning with my Levemir before so I don't know what exactly happens or what I am meant to do. I would really appreciate some advice.

Well, you can't undo your mistake, so all you've got to do is monitor it, and treat it like a potential hypo. Are you able to do that with your schedule ? Avoid long road journeys etc. Being slower action insulin, you'll need to monitor your levels throughout the day, and have carbs to hand to compensate, both quick-release if needed (your rescue remedy)and slower-release. Your meter will be your friend.
I've only been on insulin for a year, and can't speak from experience, so hope older hands have something to say.
This website seems to indicate your 'extra' Levemir will start to peak in about 8 hrs time, so pay more attention then.

Good luck with your day, and don't overworry.

Hello I agree I've been on insulin for 15-16yrs and I have done this myself but try not to stress best thing to do is what libearising said keep testing often and don't over do things feet up if you can and keep a few carbs handy just in case and certainly don't drive until you know you're sugars are really stable I'm sure everything will be fine good luck keep us informed. PS I'm type 1

It can happen, I once give myself my basal dose twice on a evening and was working nights at the time

Just monitor your bg levels closely, it's likely that you'll go hypo if you don't take on board extra carbs, keep us informed on your progress.

Basically all you have done is taken the dose you normally did in the morning instead of evening....so there is unlikely to be any significant change in levels I would assume.....

you can expect it to be in your system longer in to the evening of course......so watch out for lows then....

you can then start your split tonight as normal.....

I suspect you will see benefits from doing this, so well done for trying it out....;)

Thank you all for your advice, I've never given myself to much Levemir in the 22 years I've been type 1 but have with the NovoRapid. I phoned the Diabetic nurses, but they are pretty useless at answering the phones so I phoned my Diabetic GP, she pretty much said what librarising said, to just keep an eye on my blood sugars, keep something to hand and have someone home with me. I am alright at the moment, my blood sugars have been pretty normal. Again thank you all for your comments and advice!!! :)
