Hi everyone,

As we are approaching Christmas week I just thought I’d share how I’ve got on this weekend. I will be away for Christmas so have had an early Christmas along with other get togethers. A few months back I would have probably decided not to attend but I really didn’t want to miss out and am now so glad I did :)

Fri - meal out with friends. It had been a long week so I treated myself to 2 x small red wines, one before the meal and one during. We had cured meats and cheese to start and I had smoked salmon salad as a main.

Sat - for our early Christmas we had the usual... turkey and all the trimmings. I had turkey, pork, sausage, carrots and sprouts. Then had low carb trifle for dessert. A cheeky low carb small muffin later on in the evening.

Sun - a meal out (the dreaded carvery!). I stuck to gammon, roasted veg and cauliflower cheese. When I got home I had a sugar free jelly.

Just thought I’d share this to provide a bit of hope for anyone worried about socialising over Christmas. This weekend I was totally out of routine and had to estimate my carbs for every meal. I used my Libre for guidance and managed to stay in range :)
This time last year I was following the usual NHS guidelines (everything in moderation) and I know my BS would have been awful! So by making a few different choices I’ve been able to enjoy myself and feel good for it (that said I was a little envious of everyone eating pizza on Friday or eating ice cream as dessert but I know how I’d feel afterwards!).

Well done! I had a Christmas meal on Saturday night, but didn't use my meter at all so I don't know the effects. I'm a coward!

Hahaa! Let’s be honest, sometimes it’s best not to know! I’m on a mission and have my HbA1c test in the morning so would have been the worst time to ‘let go’

I got my result last week, and don't have another test for 6 months, so I thought I could get away with a small indiscretion. Back to the low carb today though.......

Tirreoftrying - I'm not T1, nor am I totally familiar with your whole story, but I do recall you arriving here, and your early days. You have really come along way.

Perhaps in 2018 you can expand a bit on these steady foundations you've worked hard for and be able to push the envelope a bit more sometimes in the future.

I'm so pleased you have had a decent run up to the big bun fight. Enjoy the main event too.

Sounds delicious! My favourite low carb food is salad, I'm sure I'll be having plenty of it over Christmas!

Thanks @DCUKMod.

Fingers crossed!

I’m skiing at Christmas so that will be interesting with the Libre!

Oh boy. Watch for those exercise induced lows maybe, Tiredoftrying. I imagine your enery needs will go up a bit, but, to repeat, as a non-T1, I wouldn't dare suggest how you manage that.

One BIG tip though would be to make sure you keen both your Libre reader and meter warm. If they get cold, they can protest by going on strike.

Personally, I'd consider having them on a lanyard, around my neck, well tucked into my layers, and out of danger of any unplanned white-outs!

Enjoy your skiing, I could pretend not to be the least envious, but I won't. ;)

Edited to add, I think @Juicyj is a skier, so she may have relevant thoughts, and maybe a little envy herself. :) )

Thanks for the tips @DCUKMod, much appreciated. I’ve been a few times before but never with the Libre or the understanding I have now. Look out for a new thread!!

You have done so well, and though I am not a T1, you have inspired me to keep on tweaking and looking for those positive gains made, compared to say last year when I was still out of control.....Your name is "tiredoftrying"......wondering if 2018 will be a time to change that to something like "Icandothis"??!! Blessings/L

Thank you so much! I’m glad to have provided some inspiration. Haha yes maybe I need to change my name. I would if I had any idea how to.. pending those HbA1c results!
