Maybe I have type 2, maybe I'm "just" prediabetic

Eight years ago, I tested prediabetic on an OGTT that I took as a volunteer in a class I taught on lifestyle diseases. I stopped eating sugar and fast carbs for a couple of years, tested normal during my pregnancy and slowly slid back into eating more carbs.

A year ago, I got a shoulder injury after a long time of getting more and more tired and moving less and less and consequently getting weaker. It turned out I had anemia from an iron deficiency and also had severe vitamin D deficiency. Those have been corrected, but I'm struggling to get better. I have to go very slowly with increasing repetitions of exercises and I easily get pains from joints and tendons.

I remembered the earlier problems with blood sugar and started testing myself. Since I have a fairly low FBG (4,8-5,3) and also a VERY low Hba1c (28!), but when I did an OGTT myself at home with the meter, my 2-hour value was 11,7.

I can't get tested with an OGTT because of the low Hba1c, but I don't trust it, since I measure values from 5-8 before and after meals (when eating normal amounts of carb), and rarely go below 5 during the day. Hba1c can be influenced by blood loss, and since I still have to take large amounts of iron and am getting checked out for what caused the anemia in the first place, it may be affecting the Hba1c measurements.

I've gone to a private doctor, just did the OGTT and will meet with the doctor and get the results in a couple of weeks. I have been low-carbing since I did the OGTT at home, and I feel better.

I'm not overweight, I weigh 65 kg (143 lbs, 10,2 stones) at 180 cm (5"10), but I probably have very low muscle mass, since my fat percentage is around 37 %. Any fat I have is in and on my stomach. I feel a bit stuck, as I can't exercise any more than I do, which is little, but as much as my body can take. I can't really lose weight either, as I need a caloric surplus to build muscle.

The blood test results you have posted seem very normal for a non-diabetic. Yes, the HBa1C may have been affected by your health changes but other than that it is a very reliable test. I agree the HBa1C doesn't always show-up spiking but a 2 hour finger prick after a few meals would be just as good together with an HBa1C once you have settled. A GTT won't do any harm of course. I'm not sure you need to think too much about calorific value to build up muscle mass. A low-carb diet with adequate fat and protein might achieve the muscle build you want without influencing blood sugar?

After eating relatively normal meals of app 30 g of carbs, I have had two-hour readings of 7. We're talking one slice of dark rye bread with cold meats and a glass of low fat milk. This was before I went low-carb.
I agree that I'm not far gone, so I hope to reverse this.
