Hi
Diagnosed around 4 months ago a carb counting may way to normality (whatever that is). I have begun to notice the meal spikes a bit more and wondered what was a "normal" meal spike. For example I had lunch a few days ago and started in the 4/5s and an hour later up to 8 spiking in the 10s 2 hours later. I know that what you eat will impact on BG's and not too worried about it as levels come down fairly quickly but is that a too big a rise. Sometimes my daily graph resembles the Himalayas. I have never had to bolus to bring the levels down (advice given was that I should let it level out naturally) and it has generally worked well. I suppose what I am asking is are these spikes causing any damage.

How far in advance of your meal do you bolus? I use advance bolusing to stop big spikes. It's been a revelation to me as it works really well. If you try it, move your injection earlier 5 mins at a time and proceed carefully.

This might help too:

.
I generally Bolus just before a meal but find it hard to find the time especially if I don't know what I am going to eat. However I see the logic in this approach and will have to plan a bit more or get out of bed earlier!!!
cheers
