I've had a medical at work and the urine test indicated sugar.
A friend with a machine did a blood test for me and the reading was 13.
Is this reading dangerously high?
 
How long had it been since you'd eaten when the test was done? Best thing you can do is see a doctor for assessment. 13 is high, but not at a level that would be considered immediately threatening.
 
Hello and welcome to the forum. :) You really do need to see a doctor and have an A1c and other tests done. Tell him or her what you have written above. As indy has said 13 is high but there is no context. Is this a peak number after eating a bag of M&M's or is this a low for you right before lunch. You need to get tested to find out what is going on.

Hi Indy51
I had not eaten or had a drink for at least 2 hrs before my friend did the test.
 
A reading of over 11 for a random test means you will be joining us here in my opinion. So welcome even before your appointment.
 
Don't let it worry you to much .. as stress can increase blood sugars

Unfortunately as diabetes is now so common doctors tend to be a bit underwhelmed.
Of course your going to be up tight, this is life changing, even if you come out after test as pre diabetes it means changes and sometimes a person who has a healthy weight and diet cannot see what can change or if you are overweight and gave tried to get weight down without much success it all seems so daunting.
There are positives though, you get to know a mixed bunch of strange people to help you here.
You find out what makes your body blurgh or wow
You get to eat things like cauliflower rice or sweet potato pizza, as the song goes, it's a whole new world.
