As a newly diagnosed T2 (March 2009) are there any medications that I should be wary of taking?. The reason I ask is that I take quite a number of tablets due to different ailments, Insulin & Metformin 4 x 500mg daily, Simvastatin, Amlodopine,Lisinopril & Asprin. My Doctor just placed me in the hands of a Diabetic Nurse and gave me the distinct impression that he knew little about Diabetes and gave me very little advice on the subject. Thanks in advance.

Every single medication you have listed will have some possible side effects. Something to be aware of, but not afraid of !

Take a read of any of the Patient Information leaflets with each drug. They are supposed to be given out with all prescriptions. If there isn't one there then ask the Pharmacist for it.

Any specific questions, just ask.
 
Your GP has software on his/her computer that should "flag up" any potential interactions between drugs he prescribes. If he doesn't( unlikely) your Pharmacy does.
the only real problems can arise if you buy "over the counter" products like cold remedies. Then, Read the leaflet inside the pack.
 
Most GP's don't know a lot about Diabetes.

They're not meant to... They are General Practitioners. Their job is to diagnose, treat, and refer if neccessary.
The diabetic nurse should know more.
You should be referred to a doctor specialising in Diabetes, and Endochronologist.
They can advise you on what the mdedications do, and the side effects etc.

Speak to your nurse if you are unsure of why you are on any medications, and possible side-effects.

You should also get an appointment with a dietician, who can explain how different food affect you, and what effects the medications may have.
