I have had diabetes type 2 since November 2015. It took a while to sink in and my levels are between 14-28. Im on Metformin and now been prescribed Gliclazide which im anxious about taking as i dont like taking medication.

Have you made any dietary modifications?
What does a normal day's food look like for you?

Thank you for all your reply's. They want me on 2 Metformin and 1 Gliclazide a day until after Easter then a review. Daily diet varies but i usually miss breakfast but if i do i have 2 Weetabix. Lunch a sandwich tuna mayo. Tea varies new potatoes salad or veg with meat and 2 small baguettes.

Daily diet
Theese foods are full of carbs. You have to limit the carbs to bring your BG down. Start immediately LCHF diet, and please, as your BG will go down, try to stop Gliclazide, as this med forces your pancreas to produce more insulin - thus you will burnout your pancreas sooner.

WIKI:
Gliclazide, sold under the brand name Diamicron among others, is an anti-diabetic medication used to treat diabetes mellitus type 2.[2] It is used when dietary changes, exercise, and weight loss are not enough.[3] It is taken by mouth.[2]

Side effect may include low blood sugar, vomiting, abdominal pain, rash, and liver problems.[3][2] Use by those with significant kidney problems, liver problems, or who are pregnant is not recommended.[2][3] Gliclazide is in the sulfonylurea family of medications.[2] It works mostly by increasing the release of insulin.

Hi. Gliclazide is well tolerated but only really of use when your body's production of insulin is too low due to a failing pancreas (T1 or LADA). In this case you may well not have excess weight. If you are T2 with some excess weight then as others have said, a low-carb diet is the best start point and then Gliclazide or one of the other tablets if the low carb diet isn't adequate. Metformin will help a bit.
