Am interested in the use of metformin and insulin, At the moment I take 200 units of Insulin ( Humalin M3 ) and 6 metformin 500 tablets a day and my average daily reading is around 15 - 18 mmol, with peaks around 22 mmol, I have been diagnosed as type 2 diabetes but nothing I take seems to bring my blood sugars down.

Hi Stevie, welcome :)

What do you typically eat through the day?

Hi. That's a lot of insulin and Metformin. Can I guess that you may have some excess weight? If you are not already having a low-carb diet this will be essential for you. If you have insulin resistance thru excess weight you can be in a vicious spiral with insulin as it assumes your own production is low whereas T2s can have too much insulin in their blood. The low-carb diet should help. Have you discussed Byetta instead of insulin with the GP? It is often prescribed where you need to break that spiral. Also be aware that although manyT2s have twice-a-day mixed insulin, if it isn't controlloing the blood sugar then the Basal/Bolus regime can give better control but diet as always is the top priority.
