Hi guys,

I've been on the guardian 4 sensors for just over a week due to pregnancy and I am having reactions to the tape.
Can anyone recommend an alternative?

Thanks

Hi @Charlieann94

I'm on Dexcom G6 which fortunately I'm ok with, although I do use Skin tac under them, but I use Mefix tape to keep my cannulas on. I tried many tapes before finding one that was ok! Using Sorbaderm or Cavilon spray prior to putting tape on may help allergies with the medtronic ones as well. Hope you find something that helps.

I know I got a prescription for a barrier spray to help with mine - for me though it only seems to affect my stomach so now I just use the sensors on my arms as I dont get the same reaction there, but the barrier spray does help for me with the infusion kits on my stomach (which also have a reaction)

contact Medtronic and tell them about reactions you're getting. They may send you some samples of Tegaderm or IV3000 to try.

Hello,

I took am allergic to the tapes, patches and alternatives offered by Medtronic but my husband and I have found that using an Opsite patch on the skin, before applying the sensor, works. It lasts the full seven days (unlike some of the sensors!) and does not give me an allergic reaction. The good news is they are available on prescription after my DSN requested my GP to add them.

I hope this helps.

Tilly

Hi, I have allergies to the tapes as well, but it only seems to affect where the tape is pulling at the skin over the sensor. at the moment I am using opsite also to secure my sensor. it's strange that I don't get a reaction to the glue used on the sensors themselves, just the tape that medtronic sends to secure the sensors...
