Medtronic Bolus Wizard Question

Hi, just wondered if anyone uses this feature?

I just wanted to know if when you enter the info to the wizard such as your BG level and carb intake and it gives you the estimated bolus based on your ratio, it also gives you the estimated correction dose and remaining active insulin. However, it doesn't appear to figures these last two into the total bolus (i.e. it doesn't deduct the active insulin or add on the correction).

Am I meant to calculate these factors myself based on the info it gives me?

The Wizard does add/subtract any necessary correction, so you don't have to do anything except press Act.

Of course, if you know something is wrong, e.g. you've over-estimated carbs in an earlier meal, you can make a suitable adjustment yourself.

the pump wont give you insulin you don't need..............

were the correction and IOB roughly the same?

Hi

I've tried it twice now, and it could just be that I'm not understanding it correctly, but here's an example;

ratio - 1:10
BG - 5.8
carb - 50g
correction - 0
active ins. - 1.0
est bolus - 5.0

So, shouldn't it have suggested 4.0 if I still had 1u IOB?

It did the same thing earlier in the day, it just recommended I give myself 3.8u based on 38g carb but I had a 0.2 correction and 0.7 IOB, shouldn't it have been 3.3?

Like I say, I might just be missing something.

Thanks.

so it being 4.5.............that extra 1.0 unit you had left, likely would have brought you down to that level [4.5] but not below it and so the pump would know that taking it off your 5.0 for the carbs wouldn't be necessary as you would still be in target...........;)
