I am due to update my pump. I currently have a Medtronic but they have brought out several newer models since I got mine! I have been told I have a choice between an animas, an accu check and a Medtronic?

Which one should I go for and why?

My first pump was a Roche disetronic and then I swapped to the Medtronic I am on now.

The posts I have read don't mention the Medtronic pump very much? I just wonder if I could do better with one of the others?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi,
My father has the Animas pump and I have to say it is very basic but simple to use and apparently water proof. I have the Medtronic Minimed Paradigm and have to say it is very good. It can communicate wirelessly with my tester and receive the results. There are so many good features to list. One useful feature is that if I have carbs due to a hypo I can record these in the pump with needing to take a bolus. I cant offer any help on the Accu-chek. Let us know what you decide and how you get on. :)

I have just chosen the uccu check combo. I had the same choice as you. Reasons for my choice. I can afford to buy CGM very month and therefore decided the main benefit of the medtronic was not applicable to me. i also cant see it being free on the nhs anytime soon. I also did not want to fish out the pump every time I needed bolus. I know there is a remote, but I liked the full Bluetooth remote the combo offers. You can also give insulin without the remote just like the medtronic if needed. i think the medtronic is a very very good pump, but I also know that the combo is tried and tested, discrete to wear and have excellent call centres.

I think the medtronic is let down by the bayer meter. I can't get on with the lancets as they get everywhere and the caps fall off once used. Great pump, poor monitor. If testing 8 times a day, I don't want to use it. I did not choose animas as I can't see my self using the waterproof feature.

Hope it helps, I did so much research I drive myself mad, but start on the 14th, so fingers crossed I've made the right choice.

I not goven a choice as hospital had nought in bulk a large qty of accuchek pumps

However, the best feature for me is the remote and not having to fish out the pump each time. I couldnt handle that at all, so accuchek works good for me. I found the customer service good too, being ablt to phone them anytime night or day and being anle to speak to somebody, and having them also email hour call to hospital is good too, especially when first hooked up.The service from accuchek I believe is pretty good compared to others. However, on a longterm basis you shouldnt need to phone them, so it is just a help really when setting up or if you think you have a batch of faulty sets.
You can also email them your order for the supplies of sets, tubes, batteries etc.. Which is far better for me than phoning from my mobile..you will have to make sure your email gives full details of account number with them, and name, address and size and type of cannula etc.

I know I had a moaning time initially with my pump because nobody would believe me when I thought the flexlink plus sets were faukty, and that was within weeks of going on to the pump, but I do like my accuchek pump.
