Medtronic Simplera Sync sensors not available to order

I started with my new Medtronic 780G with Simplera Sync (funded) just under a month go and have not been able to order any replacement Simplera Sync sensors. It doesn't help that 3 of the sensors in the starter pack were 'faulty' and failed after a couple of days.

Having spoken to Medtronic this morning and they have such a huge backlog of requests for the sensors, all orders have been cancelled – with no notification.

Anyone with a new Medtronic pump has been de-prioritised in favour of pediatrics (which is the right thing to do if there is a shortage) and they have no idea when they will be available to order again.

What is frustrating that they are pushing this product with no means to deliver it.

I have enjoyed the closed loop system for a few weeks, but back to trusty Libre for me (which is much more reliable) just a shame it doesn't connect to the pump!

I know I got an email this morning saying that the rollout has been delayed for those of us still waiting, so yes I was a bit disappointed about it since I do have quite a few G4 failures, but I guess I may be lucky I'm still on the G4's since they say there is no problem supplying them

They make a lot of promises that in practice they then cannot keep, they must know how many people are currently on a 780g with G4 and that are eligible for Simplera so why they did not plan ahead and make sure they were way ahead with production before rolling it out to more people is beyond me :banghead: they can’t keep up with the demand and like @Rokaab has said they’ve paused the rollout to any current 780g users (myself included) it is definitely frustrating and I feel for those who have no other options than the Simplera as I can just continue to use my G4 until I’m able to finally upgrade

Edited for spelling error

I’m surprised Medtronic didn’t offer the previous G’s in lieu of the Simplera as they appear to have a good supply.

I would think there should be no NHS approval required with the G’s being presumably cheaper.

The G4's do require a transmitter and I'm pretty sure those are pricey - especially if only going to be used briefly rather than for their full years worth, maybe thats why

That could well be an issue.

Also the required software upgrade for Simplera may render the G4’s unusable.

It would be worth asking as Medtronic clearly have some obligation here.

Thanks Peeps...nice to know there are others out there experiencing the same problem....I didn't even get an email...only found out because I called to chase as on the last one. They did say there was no problem supplying the G4 sensors, but unfortunately they are not NHS funded and I can't be bothered to get into all that. I'll just go back to using my libre (was kind of missing it anyway! ) until the supply issue resolves itself. At least I have only been using it for a few weeks. I have become used it it though.... And it is great (when the sensors work).

We were due to start them today for my son and I emailed for the set up details and they just told us they’ve paused software updates. Now without a sensor, hoping Medtronic will send more G4s out to us quickly.

Hopefully things are flowing again I've been waiting for a replacement box of 5 for a few weeks now .They did send a single one i wasn't expecting. My quarterly supply has now been delivered today with a single box of 5 sensors plus the box of 5 I was owed. I log all sensor faults with batch and dates etc and ring them through when it gets to 5. I'm hoping the holdup was to improve the sensors and not get so many faulty ones.
