HI, Was told on Wednesday by neurologists I have pseudo dementia early stages bit shocked but Hey Ho:p onwards and upwards, they said simply diabetes, neuropathy, medications drinking years ago and on different antidepressants have all contributed as long as everything stays the same health wise it shouldn't get much worse (easier said than done) although it's a nightmare now this has progressively got worse over the last six months don't get me wrong I do have good days you know, it just seems to be another thing to try me! Does anyone else have this type of trouble or diagnosis. Type 1 39 yrs plus a few months other illnesses and a ton of meds but a smile on my face.

Hi masonbason. I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis....In a previous post you mentioned you're on the dreaded statins and as one of the many side effects is a problem with memory loss, I'm wondering if it could have anything to do with your diagnosis?

I tend to agree with Beachbag. Might be worthwhile checking out Dr Duane Graveline and his experience of Transient Global Amnesia while taking statins: http://www.spacedoc.com/

Might also be worthwhile checking out Dr David Perlmutter, a neurologist and has written a book called "Grain Brain" about the effects of "healthy whole grains" on the brain.

Thanks for the advice I get onto to it, did wonder about statins, I've been on them for a good number of years did try dieting And exercise prior to that but just could not reduce cholesterol levels at all, my brother had exactly the same trouble reducing his levels. Thanks again :)

Diabetes is a pain in the ar**! I too keep forgetting basic stuff which I didn't realise was an effect of the statins! I am trying to get my cholestrol down but think I might be stuck with it because my mum has it and she's as thin as a latt! Diabetes also comes from mums side but she only just thought to tell me after I'd been diagnosed. Would really like to get rid of those statins! Am waiting for hb1c test - end of this month to see what my cholestrol is. Take care!

Pseudo dementia is caused by a variety of factors like hormonal imbalance or nutritional deficiencies like B12, in your case depression must have caused Pseudo dementia as also drinking for a prolonged period must have caused memory loss issues. However do not worry cause Pseudo Dementia if detected early is easily treatable.

Thanks Jordan I've been tested for B12 and that was fine, and haven't touched alcohol for 6 years at all, so could well be depression that is a problem as when diagnosed at 16 with clinical depression and now 50 and still have it and take various anti d's and counselling I don't know if that's going to ease up soon although sing being put on Carbamazapen for neuropathy my mood has got better .

High bg can cause memory loss and dementia. I read an article recently that said you can look on dementia as diabetes in the brain. Going grain free might help as can low carb generally.

I couldn't understand why I had so many of the old symptoms of hypothyroidism back, including memory loss, as my thyroid levels were perfect. It turned out diabetes have many symptoms common with hypothyroidism. So you could get your thyroid checked to make sure. A TSH above 2.5 is suspicious.

As to B12, if your levels were below mid-range you can try supplement anyway. The range is very generous.

Vitamin D might be a good idea too.

Total cholesterol is disputed. Look at breakdown numbers: Triglyceride, HDL and LDL.

LCHF usually corrects bad cholesterol. And bg of course.

It stands for "Low Carbohydrate, High Fat".

One of the simplest explanations of it can be found at the Diet Doctor website. The diet is very popular in Sweden and this is the English version of the original site.

MCFA or coconut oil can't hurt to add to your diet

After two weeks of taking coconut oil, Steve Newport's results in an early onset Alzheimer's test gradually improved says his wife, Dr. Mary Newport. Before treatment, Steve could barely remember how to draw a clock. Two weeks after adding coconut oil to his diet, his drawing improved. After 37 days, Steve's drawing gained even more clarity. The oil seemed to "lift the fog," his wife says.

I do puzzles like suduko to keep my brain active, I really think this helps.

Smiling works all the time though, as long as you have that then life is good ;)
