I have finally decided to test (long story), although just before and after certain meals, and have two meters (another long story): the Accu-chek Performa and the TEE2. Using the same blood drop, the Performa is consistently about 0.5-0.7mmol below the TEE2, sometimes more. I think others use two meters - do you take an average of the two or do you just use the lower reading? I've had a look through the Forum but can't find any answers to this question (apologies if I'm repeating another thread - probably not looking hard enough!).

Sue - please put one of the meters away to be used in emergencies only. They all have their little foibles, and are only required to be accurate to within 15%. Using two will do nothing but confuse you. You are looking for trends, up or down, not 100% accuracy. Using one meter will give you these trends, and any inaccuracies will work their way out over a period of time as there will be some higher and some lower than the true value.

Well done on the testing by the way!

you just need to roughly know being 1 either way wont matter. its the change over the day and weeks that is important.

Thank you for this @rmz80 - out of interest How often would you normally use control solutions on a meter? I’ve not done this on mine.

I use them if and when I start to mistrust the readings, either because of a run of unexpected lows or highs. All they do is check the meter is still working within the 15% targets. There is one for lower levels and one for higher levels. From memory, in 4 years I have used them no more than 4 times, and on each occasion they have shown the meter is working properly.

Thank you very helpful - as they are free I’ll send for them so have them if readings odd.

This control solution is a known quantity of glucose dissolved in water (shake bottle really hard). You put a drop on a dish and set your meter to the control solution option. You use a normal test strip to do the calibration reading. My meter manufacturer sends me it free if I send an email request

By the way just be aware that sometimes a meter error can be in a batch of test strips. I had a container of 50 test strips and all read low. Get another container with a different batch number.

It would be best to do 3 readings as well. 2 readings with 1 meter and 1 with other then alternate to 2 readings on other meter the next day.

Thank you very useful information

I have never actually used the control fluid I thought it was only to test the meter if you thought it was not working properly and I have not found that with my Codefree so not needed to test it
