METER READING CHARTS

Hi There,

Been searching the internet for anyone who can provide me with an accurate Meter Reading Chart.

My Mum has Type 2 Diabetes and has recently acquired a home diabetes testing meter. However, there is no chart with this meter to say what is a good reading and what is a bad reading, so we have no idea whether her reading is high or low.

She is recovering from a Stroke and has just been released from Hospital after spending a week in intensive care for dehydration and low blood pressure.

I have just taken her blood meter reading and it was 20.4. I took it again and it was 19.8. Now, are these high readings, coz a lot of people on here are registering readings of 4 and below.

Please help. I am really at a loss of what to do.

If you can give me a table that I can print off with required levels to be within I can make sure that she stays within those guidelines.

Thanks.

Jackie Clouston.

Hi Jackie.
Welcome to the Forum.

As a Type 2 the latest 2010 NICE guidelines for Bg levels are as follows:
Fasting (waking).......between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals......no more than 8.5 mmol/l.
If you are able to keep the post meal numbers lower, so much the better. Going below 4 mmol/l is considered to be hypoglycaemic and is not recommended.

As she is only just out of Hospital I wouln't worry too much yet, certainly though when she is better this is what to aim for. Something that can have a major effect on the levels is diet and possibly other medications she may be taking.

If the numbers don't seem to be going down then please discuss this with your GP or DSN.
