Finally got a meter this morning, Glucomen Lx kit. Going to self fund strips though,

Anyways had some porridge this morning and my reading 2 hours after 9.7

What's the best time to test? Any advice folks

Best time to test is just before eating and two hours after, that way you can see exactly what affect the food is having.

Porridge will always send me high so I avoid it.

9.7 is a fairly high post-meal reading. You could try a different breakfast or a reduced portion.

My experience with the glucomon is that it always tends to read higher than my Freestyle meter which is the one I find most reliable and trust most.

I use the BGStar and iBGStar and I find the BGStar has lower readings than the other I think there should be some kind of revision on the differences on the readings

Yep, I have an iBGstar as well, never use it as its totally inconsistent with the other meters, I've tried loads of meters now, always go back to the Freestyle.

My reading when I got took into hospital were 18.4 so well on track getting it down, working on reducing carbs too atm. A huge learning process for a newbie. Tested before my tea tonight pre meal was 6.4mml/ol happy with that. I will take ur advice on board tho maybe need smaller portion

Hi,
I also have porridge on a morning , what you need to check is what your bloods were before and after to see how big the spike, obviously you cant inject so dont want too much of a rise, many on here want very low numbers but there are also a lot who would be happy with 6.4,depends what it is 2 hrs after tho, at the end of the day you have done so well since diagnosis, congratulations and keep up the hard work , you are doing great:)

That's great progress so far and 6.4 tonight is much better. Remember though, don't feel you need to stop eating everything you like, just maybe not as often or smaller portions. Your meter will tell you when things are going well. Take care :-)
