It'll be testing central at your house Ally. :D Well done on your enthusiasm and commitment. I'm sure you'll learn a lot.

They'll last for ages Ally, you don't need to change them every test. I change mine no more than twice a week, usually more like weekly.

alan, i,m on 2 meds for diabetes
the diabetic nurse didn,t give me any advice but i see the dietician on 5th august
this morning my reading was 14.7 so its going down
i went to buy some more test strips but 3 chemists don,t have them
Have your read the details on that link yet? Until you have your test strips this may help: What to Eat Until You Get Your Meter.

What are the meds and doses?

Great to hear you are sorted with a meter and test strips.

How are you getting on with your diet? What are some of your before and 2 hour meals readings like now? Are you learning from these readings?

my diet is going well, up untill last night when i sinned and had a doughnut

Ah, we all do that Ally. The thing is to not go overboard feeling guilty. Don't let it make you think it's not worth carrying on. Just count it as a blip that slows down your weight loss, but doesn't stop it.

How have your meter readings been (ha, that makes it sound like a gas meter doesn't it?). I tried Greek yoghurt and blueberries for breakfast this morning, and 3 hrs later, after a 30 min dog walk, I am still 8.9. I don't think I'll be having them for breakfast again! Well, I live and learn about how many carbs I can eat and when.

my readings are very slowly going down, at lunch it was 17, but 2 months ago it was 33

Are you testing before you eat and 2 hours after, then noting the difference? You say you were 17 at lunch, but was that before or after?

Try and make sure you take a reading before and 2 hours after food. This will help tell you how you are reacting to what you have eaten. I also find that if the before reading is higher than expected it is a good incentive to try and have an almost carb free meal.

Also from experience, if you start to feel really hungry between meals, particularly if you feel shaky, woozy etc, take a reading. When I first started to reduce my carbs I had bad false hypos, my meter was the only thing that kept me from reaching for a snack. It was really hard to sit through it but it is worth it as my body is starting to adjust to the reduced sugar levels.

thank you ruth
i find i do get hungry in the evenings, i eat my tea at 6.30 and starving by 9ish
