Really don't know how to start!

Use Accuchek Aviva, which is discontinued but can still get strips. The MAIN issue is that I cannot read it any more and I need a different one. I am not asking for an expensive one.

But my DSN was just going on about the cost, how many fingerpricks did i do in a month, no regard for my sight loss. Of course I understand the cost issues but I have never felt so like a number and not a person with a disability. After the call I cried my eyes out.

The only meter she mentioned was the T2 which has a tiny display.

She made me feel like I was personally draining the NHS! According to her the lancets and strips i use are very expensive yet my doc has never questioned this?

So I am asking, what do I do? Do I bypass her and go to GP and explain to him?

Anyone any advice please?

I have no idea what route to take as I'm not in your country and things work slightly different here.

But I do want to say I'm sorry you have been treated like this!

Just in case it's useful, the CareSenseN and CareSens Dual have relatively large screens, although I'm not sure they are larger than your current meter, and the teststrips are on the cheaper side. Ive used this meter for quite a while and it worked well for me.

I use a caresens dual (they are cheap enough that they are the only meters handed out to New Zealand's diabetics) and the screen is nice and big - I can read it without reading glasses. The screen size is 5cm by 4cm and the digits are 22mm high by 10mm wide. The dual also tests ketones, which I believe you should be entitled to as a T1 diabetic.

Looks like the aviva has a screen that is 40mm (H) x 28mm(W) so the caresens is definitely larger.

The RNIB might be a useful resource for you, with a leaflet about diabetes and sight issues, and a helpline on the first page.

There are some meters that say your reading out loud. I don’t know anything about them I’ve just encountered someone who had one. May be your surgery has access to these?

I've just been prescribed a GlucoMen Areo GK as a backup. I believe the strips are among the cheaper end. Works fine and has a big screen. It also measures ketones.

Do you use a Libre 2? Not something I've used myself but there are some apps you can set up to read aloud your BGs.

Hi,thank you. I will have look at that meter. Yes am on Libre 2 and it does read aloud but the screen is nice and clear and big on my phone. Just need to find meters that read aloud.

Just need to find meters that read aloud.
Found one!
Available in the UK, uses cheap test strips, decent brand! :)

(I found some more, but most of them seem to be from the US or look pretty dodgy.)
