Is Metformin use for any medical condition other than diabetes? I now have my blood sugar under control and doctor removed me from taking Diamicron but she left me on Metformin 850 twice a day.

It is prescribed for insulin resistance - so can also be prescribed to women with PCOS. Not aware of any other applications for it. It apparently also has some positive side effects like protection from cancer, heart disease, generally anti-inflammatory, etc. so if you don't have any negative side effects, doctors (and many patients) prefer to stay on it for those reasons.

Yes, it does apparently help against some cancers and heart disease etc. I've been left on it even though I'm on insulin.
