Metforman side effects

mostly people do get a loose stomach.. I had the opposite but only for 1-2 days... most side effects do go away after the first 1-2 weeks...
but there are some people that can not cope with the ordiary metformin, but then the extended version can be a better choice to try out..
but if you mean you cant pee, then I think you should phone the GP or hospital cause that is dangerous.

A lot of people have gastric problems with Metformin, usually diarrhoea and having to get up in the middle of the night to pee.

If you are having serious issues with it, then perhaps you should stop taking it. There is a slow release version which may suit you better, and maybe you should phase in taking it (e.g. once a day for a few weeks before taking it twice a day).

Metformin only has marginal benefits for reducing blood sugar. A much more effective method is to adopt as Low Carb High Fat diet.

Hi @Jacquib9 - Metformin can cause you to suffer with Constipation and/or Diarrhoea. But, not everybody will get these side effects. Just remember not to take it on an empty stomach as it will probably cause gastric upset.
Take it with or just after food and drink plenty of water.

I've been mostly OK with it, though I still get the odd bout of loose movements. So far it seems to be linked to red wine, but no other obvious common thing. I have also suffered from difficulty going a couple of times, but again has settled now. TBH I can't say if its the Metformin or the change in what I'm eating.

Metformin is famous for diarrhoea; I had never heard of constipation before; any drug can cause any side effect, so I have learnt something new (I would never be patronising). Half folk on metformin find their gastrointestinal side effects resolve on switching to the modified release, which means that the other half do not, unfortunately.
Metformin is as "strong" as other tablets for diabetes, doesn't cause hypos or weight gain on its own, may decrease risk of heart attack or stroke, may improve lipids and may decrease risk of cancer, improve outcomes if develop cancer; so for a drug whose origin is in the plant Goat's Rue 500 years ago, it is amazing stuff!
best wishes

Interestingly when I started Metformin SR many years ago now I found it did cause a little constipation which has remained which is the opposite of the effects of the plain version.

I have just started taking metforman and have been unable to go to the toilet. Is this normal?
For me, yes it is and I find that it's often difficult for me to predict. I take a couple of Fibogel a day with food to help and these can be made available on prescription.

Do you know if you are on the slow release version or the regular @Jacquib9 ?
With the regular I had constant diarrohea and with the slow release I was constipated then had explosive diarrohea.
Neither very nice...
