Hi is anyone else on metformin 500mg x 4 a day? I have just come back from the docs and even though my hba1c has improved a little its down to 7.7 the doc wants me to go from my current 2 a day to 4 a day, anyone else out there on 4? and did you have any side effects etc etc....
Thanks Elaine :)

Hi......I was on 2 then 4 but was still having a blood test of 8.2
On 2 I had few side effects but on 4 I found I needed to be dashing off to the toilet a lot more urgently and frequently...
Might have been worth it if it had brought my blood test down by more than .2
Now trying 3 a day plus saxagliptin on 3 metformin I seem to be more stable in the toilet dept :D

i am able to take them anytime food or not, but them i dont seem to get side effects from any meds, in fact i didnt know i was diabetic, i can go bg25 or bg3 and not know it, just lucky i suppose

I've been on 2000mg SR for about 8 years now with no side effects whatsoever. It seems if you can tolerate 1000mg you can also tolerate 2000mg. The increase doesn't have much effect on blood sugar however; law of diminishing returns.

I was on 3 x 850 mg (the old maximum dose), recently got it changed to 2 x 1000 mg SR after I complained. Has made no difference to my BS cutting the dose.

I was on 2 x 750mg taken in the morning and was getting high readings the following morning. Now I take an extra 500mg going to bed and morning readings are a lot better.

No side effects :)

I was prescribed metformin when they thought I was type 2.
When I was diagnosed LADA (type 1.5) they said stay on metformin, it will help to protect your kidneys.
