Me again....

When I collected my Metformin from the pharmacist today he asked me, as he always does, how I'm getting on with Metformin and I told him, as I always do, that I'm tolerating it well and am now on 4 x daily but haven't noticed any difference. (Fasting bloods are still a bit high and I've not lost any weight, 4 weeks after going LCHF)

He reminded me that I still have an undispensed prescription for Glipizide which I originally declined as I wanted to see how I did on Metformin alone, having heard such good things about it, but as I've been on it since early Jan and not seen any improvement, I'm wondering what to do about the Glipizide.

Any advice please?

Hi. Metformin only ever has a small effect on blood sugar so don't expect much. If your islet cells are underperforming then the Glipizide could make a big difference. It will help a lot if you can get that weight down. Do continue the low-carb but only have the amount of fat that you need to give you enough calories. A LCHF diet doesn't literally mean High Fat; hopefully you already realise that. Some people are very sensitive to Glipizide/Gliclazide in the effect it has on blood sugar so be prepared to discuss the dose with the GP depending on how it affects you.
