A few weeks back my diabetes GP took me of one of my painkillers and increased the other as he was trying to see if this was interacting with the metformin as I have been having nausea that I couldnt cope with.

The only difference I have noticed was an increase of pain in my joints but nothing in the nausea.

So trys to get another appointment with him but cant see him for a few weeks so I go in to walk in clinic as not coping with the pain.

GP on duty puts me back on my old lot of painkillers(have arthritis in my fingers amongst other stuff!!!) and then prescribes me Metformin MR - so relieved, I still have to book another appointment with the diabetes GP (to fit in with me he said) to see how we go.

So fingers crossed I will be back to happy, full of life me soon

I didnt even go with the intention of the nausea/metformin, just wanted to get the pain down a bit so so so pleased

I am just about to go to my doctors to see if I can either come off the metformin, i have been on it three weeks... or get it changed to another metformin. I have constant lower tummy pain and wind and feel generally unwell since going on metformin.is thete a big difference between SR and the normal metformin

Hi Bekha

Judging by comments forom people who have changed over from standard Met to Met SR over the last year or so I think with a bit of luck you should notice quite a difference going to the SR version. Do ask your GP to prescribe the SR version. It does cost more but the NHS shouldn't be giving you stomach problems with medicines unless unavoidable.
