Hi there

Ive just been put glucophage sr 1x 500mg twice daily along side my levermir and novorapid as i cant seem to get my levels below 18.0 is anyone else on these medications? Are you finding its making a difference?

Hi

I was on Levemir, Novorapid & Metformin (3 x 2 tabs daily)

My BM was horrendously high, my GP switched the Levemir to Humulin I with some effect in the short term but gradually I became hyperglycaemic almost constantly again.

This treatment will work for some but it is definitely not a 'one size fits all'

You may be insulin resistant

How many units of Levemir & Novorapid do you inject as there is always scope to adjust up and down, speak to your Diabetes Specialist Nurse

I had a recent spell of 5 days in hospital because I kept getting Hi readings on my meter and just felt dreadful, I found out that my BM was 59.4 and hbac1 95, the Diabetic Specialist Nurse educated me in carb counting and gave me a book with portion size to carb ratio and since being discharged after IV treatment I have been carb counting and injecting what she recommended and (touchwood) my BM has become a whole lot better and in single figures for most of the time.

Hope this helps

Hi and welcome. The Metformin will have little effect on your blood sugar but will help reduce insulin resistance if you have excess weight. Are you having a low-carb diet? Do let us know your BMI and typical number of units each day for both insulins. Are you carb-counting the NovoRapid or on a fixed dose?

Hi there

Im on 30/30 levemir and a fixed dose of 18mol novorapid, i dont carb count i eat very little carbs on a daily basis due to rocketing blood levels when i do eat carbs... my blood levels are between 18-28 throughout the day i cant remember the last time ive been below 18... i have been urgently referred to kings because my local team have tried everything and done all sorts of test, the last conversation i had with them they said i was progressing and i really dont fully understand what this means, they then decided to put me on the metformin and told me to wait for my appointment with kings

Hi. Yes, it sounds like you do need some specialist help. Those insulin levels are quite high and if you don't have excess weight then it does look like you do need some guidance from Kings. Good luck.

I have been diabetic for 34 years now. Saw a brilliant doctor for the first time a few weeks ago who suggested that I may have started to become slightly insulin resistant. he advised me to increase my Metformin dose to 2x500g tablets twice a day and what a difference already. I take Lantus for my basla and have reduced this from 38 units to 28 units with no change to my blood glucose levels. Also dropped my Humalog insulin by about 15% again with no increase in blood glucose

Hi
I take Metformin SR 2x1000g tablets I don't know how to take them ! is it best to take them both together in the morning or at night. i have been Type 2 since June 1991.I also have Lantus....I am 76.
