Metformin is making me miserable

I'll have to watch out for this as I'm about to start Metformin next week. I've taken it before years ago without side effects but one never knows...

After my post last Wednesday I stopped taking Metformin. I continued with my diet and exercise regime. Here's what I have noticed:

- My blood glucose levels have remained within the normal, non-diabetic range.
- My weight has continued to drop.
- My constipation has been relieved.
. My mood is still down but occasionally the dark clouds part and I get some rays of sunshine.

That's all been great. However, I have noticed a slight increase in appetite which makes sticking to my diet a bit more difficult but not impossible. I'm going to stay off the Metformin and hope my mood continues to improve and that I can stick to my diet and that my weight continues to drop. I've lost 22 kg already and I've only got about 12 kg left to lose until I'm down to my optimal weight of 80 kg.

Please note that I am not recommending that others go off Metformin, especially if they have not yet managed to get control of their blood glucose levels. They should discuss it with their doctor first. I'm really glad I had Metformin because it helped me lose weight and control my blood glucose levels which were dangerously high. For me, the temporary depression and constipation have been worth it. If I find I can't continue to stick to my diet I will go back on the Metformin until I reach my weight loss goal.

I had horrible stomach issues on it too, but switching to the slow-release version made a big difference. Also found taking it mid-meal helped cut down on side effects.
