Metformin - Soluble

For any one like me who struggles to swallow tablets, there is now a soluble form of Metformin made by Merck - Glucophage.

I'm recently diagnosed as type two and the doctor switched me over from Gliclazide to the Metformin soluble when I explain.

I too, have the very same problem taking tablets - just can't swallow them. I was daignosed T2 in Dec '09 and up until now have tried to control with diet and exercise - however after my last check up my HB1AX came back at 15.7! Don't understand why,my own monitor had been giving me an average reading of around 6.4 over a 30 day period! My Practise Nurse just said that it could be down to an infection or inflammation in my body - but I was told that I would have to go on medication - Metformin Moderate Release 500mg daily. I was prescribed these right at the start of my diagnosis and couldnt take them then. The Practise Nurse agreed that I could try for a few months with diet and Exercise and not take the tablets. I was doing fine until my last test and then this happened - 3 months ago my test came back at 7.1 - a big difference. Anyway - back to the tablets -like you, I can't swallow them - but not only that - everyone who takes this medication seems to suffer from sickness and stomach upsets - I have a phobia about being sick- so find it almost impossible to even consider it! Am back at the Practise Nurse next week - might ask for the soluble form - but is that Moderate Release?

As Sue said in the other post you made about taking tablets you would be best advised to discuss it with your Pharmacist or your. GP. They will be able to give you a definitive answer. As far as we are aware it is normal metformin and not slow release.

As for your high levels, Sue and I regularly post some information have a read of the. That might be useful. It is entitled 'Basic information for newly diagnosed Diabetics' which is a sticky in the top section of Greetings and Introductions. It may well help you to get better control of your Diabetes.
 
Hi

Does anyone else use soluble metformin as my doctor has told me he cannot give It to me anymore as it has been discontinued it. What is your replacement?

Hi Kellie, this is a really old thread. The three members on it haven’t logged in for a number of years. It may be better to start a new thread, to get a better response.
