Metformin SR

....I've been a member here for a couple of years but only active the last few months so I still have a few questions,,,:rolleyes:

..I take metformin SR 500, one twice a day but how long lasting is the active ingredient....?

I'm asking because I've always been told to take it with meals but twice in the last two weeks I've taken it but then not had my meal in the evening till over an hour later [visitors] and my bs level two hours after my meal has been lower than it normally is when I take it with my food.

Soo I have a twofold question...1] .it doesn't upset my stomach so is it ok to permanently take it on an empty stomach as my levels seem to be better and 2] just how long lasting are metformin SR...???

For information, I take my morning one about 10am with breakfast which I have at work, can't face breakfast earlier than that..
 
In my experience it doesn't matter too much when you take the SR version as, by definition, it releases slowly and it's effects last over many hours if not days.
 
I think that the reason that we are advised to take it with meals is that it is kinder on the tum this way ,as slow release it doesn't work straight away so it shouldn't affect your BG s as soon as you have taken it

Thanks for your answers, think I'll start having the metformin an hour before my evening meal and see how it goes, perhaps its just too long between tablets as I have the first one at 10am,
 
When I was taking SR Metformin, I took 2 1000 mg tablets with my evening meal. I went back to regular metformin because it was too slow for my stomach (I have a fast stomach).
 
I take 1500 once a day, a statin, vitamin and a couple of others on an empty stomach and eat an hour or so later
I kept forgetting the night one, so took them all together

Google it but I think standard is 8 hr and sr is 24hr
