Type 2 Metformin

My husband has just been diagnosed with T2 and the doctor has put him on Metformin I was just wondering how likely it is for him to suffer tummy problems with this drug.
He has to take
Week 1 and 2.. ..1 tablet after the evening meal
Weeks 3 and 4... 1 tablet after breakfast and 1 tablet after his evening meal
Weeks 5 and 6.. 1 tablet after breakfast and 2 tablets after the evening meal
Weeks 7and 8... 2 tablets after breakfast and 2 tablets after the evening meal
I am prediabetic so I do know all about low carbs and will be seeing he has the right diet..He is nearly 82 and will find it difficult I know to cut out the foods he loves which is mostly high sugar stuff as he has a very sweet tooth. He has to see the DN next week so it will be interesting to see what she tells him about diet

It's quite a safe drug but some do suffer stomach problems with them. Always take with food. If your husband suffers with them, go back to your doc and ask for Metformin SR ( slow release ) which is much kinder.
