Does anyone take their Metformin at bedtime? I am trying to avoid the time when I take Byetta as I have learnt it could be causing me more side effects so am wondering about taking it when I go to bed or at lunch time (dont take Byetta then). I am on the slow release tablets and they are once a day tablets but at the moment I take then with breakfast and dinner. Jude

Hi Jude.

An extract from Byetta information published by Eli Lilley makers of Byetta.

BYETTA is not expected to have any clinically relevant effects on the pharmacokinetics of metformin or sulphonylureas. Hence, no restriction in timing of intake of these medicinal products in relation to BYETTA injection are needed.

You should be able to take the tablet with your meal even after injecting. I have done so with no noticeable effects. Not sure where the information about side effects has come from ? You should discuss with your GP if it is OK to take with your midday meal. Taking it at night may well reduce it's efficacy.

I have tried, but taking it any later than 6pm seems to give my the runs.

I take mine with my Byetta, though being on 1 gm 3 times a day it is almost impossible to do anything else.

i take 1 metformin in the morning and one in the evening (7am and 7pm) but i usually dont eat with it - so far no side effects. i was told to take the both at Tea time but i read on here its better to split the dose.
