Hi, I have recently bought a Miao miao reader and am hoping to get dexcom cgm soon. I would like to get a smart watch to help keep track of things on the go and wondered if anyone had any tips on good/compatible devices?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forums @Gmather99

I thought the miao miao was a libre thing? The dexcom works with smartwatches via the phone - I have a fitbit versa 2 with the glance watchface...

Hi,

Welcome to the forum..

As @EllieM mentioned. The Miaomiao is a Bluetooth bridge designed as a “hack” for the Libre.
I used one, But the battery life kept shortening twix charges.
I do use a stand alone Watlaa one watch which was used in combo with the Miaomiao & Libre. For the CGM experience.
Libre 2. (When it came along.) was trickier. But I found a firmware update allowing me to keep the standalone function with a different bridge (the Bubble mini.)
There’s an app I use on my phone that takes data directly off my Libre 2 via Bluetooth.. Giving me a bridgeless CGM function. But I needn’t go further into that..

I’m pretty certain @searley uses Dexcom, but Apple watches are his thing..?

Yes I have 2 miao miao they are only to connect the libre to a phone... dexcom I have now has its own Bluetooth transmitter so no add on needed to connect to a phone

Now as far as smart watch goes they don't run standalone they still need the phone to do the data collection the watches just do the display.... so really you need to base your decision on what phone you want first apple/android if you go apple then in my opinion there is on 1 watch worth considering... if you go android there is a selection of either tizen or Wear os based watches work considering... in both cases I prefer the samsun S series phones and the galaxy watches

Ah, have they started using WEAR OS? When I bought a smartwatch to link to my dexcom via my phone, decom said I couldn't use the samsung watches (despite my samsung phone) because there wasn't an app that would run on the dedicated samsung watch OS....

The galaxy watch 4 is wear os..

And just because dexcom say it cany be done doesn't make it true... I had the dexcom show on my tizen Samsung watch... gwatch app will allow for that or there are other ways.. just nothing provided by dexcom themselves

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I’m about to start using the Dexcom G6 and want to know how I can see my readings on a watch whilst running. I have an iPhone and currently use a Garmin forerunner 55 watch. I can see that the Dexcom app isn’t available for Garmin in the uk. I’ve downloaded a third party widget for the watch but not sure if that will work without the official app being linked.

I’d consider getting a different watch to see my glucose readings. Can you advise what would work best?

Having a watch with a CGM is fantastic as long as it works reliably. My experience has all been with Libres 1 and 2 over about 3 years and what I have learned is that because we have to use xDrip_+ or Diabox it is very difficult to come up with a long term solution. This is because these apps are DIY products from the "We are not waiting community" and so get no help from IOS and Android and are at best tolerated by the watch manufacturers. I have had success with Pebble and SW3 watches both of which no longer support the app. Watlaa seemed a possible but I could not get it to link to the phone which I needed for the alarms. At the moment I have a Versa 2 that connects for about 80% of the time. Its all a whole lot of hassle.

I think you will do better with Dexcom and as said above they provide the transmitter. However if you are in the UK and rely on the NHS I understand you are likely to be offered the Dexcom 1 and I understand that you cannot run a watch off this. Dexcom 1 does not have "Share" which is essential for connecting to a watch. Funnily enough you might be able to connect the 1 to the xDrip+ app but as I say above watch connection is possible but difficult this way.

If you can get Dexcom G6 then this would be the way to go imho. I have stayed with the Libre for some time as it costs the NHS less but I am contemplating seeing if there is some way I can get the G6 even if it does push up the cost my prescriptions to the NHS.

Thanks for your response. I will be using the Dexcom G6 but haven’t received them yet. It looks like linking this to a Garmin watch isn’t possible in the uk which is a shame. I use an iPhone and I don’t think xdrip is available on iOS. I’ve seen an app called sugarmate which looks like it might be able to transmit readings to an Apple Watch. I just want to be able to easily see my glucose level whilst running but don’t want to have to fork out for an Apple Watch if it turns out this won’t work either

@Bert40 there is an iphone version of xDrip called something like xdrip4ios.
I believe it was derived from the same source as the android xDrip+ a few versions back. The two versions have been developed independently since.

Thanks. I’d only tried looking via the App Store but can see there is an xdrip4ios website. I’ll give this a try but looks like i might need to get a different watch. It looks like it’s possible to link xdrip to a Garmin using Nightscout or similar but I’m not sure if this will work with xdrip4ios

If anyone has managed to get Dexcom readings on a Garmin forerunner 55 using an iPhone I’d be very grateful to hear how you did it

Just thought I’d update the solution I’ve found which did unfortunately involve needing an Apple Watch.

To get xdrip4ios currently you need to use the TestFlight platform but there are currently no available public accounts for this. The alternative is to build it from source code which involves using a Mac and some above average IT skills (neither of which I possess)

I’ve ended up getting an Apple Watch and have got glucose readings displayed on this using the Sugarmate app and Dexcom G6. Seems to be working well for now
