Hi, just been diagnosed with a fatty liver as well as type2, has anyone tried any of the Michael Mosley diets, I think there are 3 different ones now, the 800 cal, the 5:2 and a mediterrean diet, any recommendations please

Hi @Lesley56, I did it for a couple of months and it worked for me - it's worth buying the book even if you don't decide to go ahead with the diet as Michael Mosley really explains the whole current thinking on how to reverse diabetes really well. I lost over 20 pounds very quickly on it and got my HbA1c from a high of 72 to barely prediabetic.

I did some days at 800 but then upped it to 1000 calories a day as walking the dog for an hour a day and that felt more manageable. I also, as he recommended, kept my carbs low - I personally stuck to under 50g a day. If you have any more questions, just shout!

You would go a long way to improve your fatty liver by cutting out fruit for a while. Fructose in fruit is stored as fat in the liver but the good news is that in the absence of fructose the liver starts to use these stored fats sometimes within days. Please note that table sugar is made up of fructose and glucose combined so cutting down/out the sugar also is very important. Good luck.

Hi. Bear in mind that Michael is always producing new diets and new books to supplement his income. They no doubt help but as another poster has said just keep the carbs down and avoid fructose. They both get deposited as fat around the body if taken to excess. There is no need for any special 'named' diet.

thats inteesting I love fruit, because I never feel really hungry I will pick at fruit, as well as fatty liver I have gallstones, I feel full and bloated all the time, so I tend to snack and then eat a proper meal about 7.30 pm when I get in from work. I have yogurt and fruit for breakfast and salad for lunch, I wonder if little and often will suit me better, GP is eventually listening to me and sent me for a scan which is how they discovered the fatty liver and am waiting to see a consultant re gall bladder, I get no support from DN at all. just a lecture everytime I go, I am going to the Diabetic clinic at the local hospital at the end of this to check out my diet.

Please be aware that there is nothing in fruit that can't be found in vegetables. There are plenty of vitamins and minerals in veggies, yes, even vitamin C.
As far as fructose goes, the worst offenders are bananas and grapes.

Good luck with your appointments.

Hi
I lost 3.5 st on the LowCalorie Blood Sugar diet by Michael Mosley. After 3 months my A1C went from 48 to 35. My BMI came into regulation and my overall health improved. Both diets,800cal and 5.2 are basically based on the Med diet of low carb high fat. I found the diet very easy to stay on,as it was so interesting and delicious. After my third A1C i am still 35 and my cholestrol and Triglycerides are all in great shape. So in my experience i would recommend it.
The only thing that nags me about the diet is that Porridge Beans and some lower card breads are included and i found that most people on here would be very wary of those three items. Since i began testing my bloods i discovered that those three foods gave me blood sugar spike every time. Good luck!

when y adventure began I bought and read The Blood Sugar Diet.... I was also reading about the Keto diet. I went with the latter. Seemed to make more sense for me as the BSD did have carbs in it. But people have had brilliant success with the diet.

This is true. I still occasionally have a few berries with greek yoghurt or double cream as a treat.
The choices are your own. I had fatty liver now I suspect I have not because my liver function tests are within normal range and that nagging right lower rib pain has disappeared.

Everyone is affected differently by food. The only way to find out what causes you to spike is to use a meter. I stick to raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. I learned early on to stay away from apples, grapes and oranges.

I avoid blueberries as they are the highest carb of all the fruits called berries, by a long way. I buy frozen fruit, always looking for the lowest carb ones, and measure it out carefully into a tea cup sized bowl.
I am pretty sure that I had a fatty liver, my middle stood out like a bay window in front and my waist was rock hard, incompressible, and now it has shrunk and is much softer - I can bend over easily and get into the lowest shelves of the fridges.
I eat a few apples each year when the trees in the garden fruit, but otherwise stick to berries with cream.
