Milky Coffee?

just tested my blood before eating and was surprised that it read 6.0 , as my lunch today was just a few berries and a low sugar yogert......But a couple of hours ago I had a Latte........Would this raise my levels? ......The reason I havnt eater much today is because we are going out for a meal tonight......
 
There could be several explanations.

If we don't eat often, or eat enough, our liver draws on its glycogen reserves to dump glucose into the bloodstream to stop us going too low.

How big was the latte? If it was made with all milk and an espresso shot (they usually are) then the sugars in the milk can be significant. I had to give up all those drinks, and switched to coffee with cream, because the milk in even a small one was enough to send my bg high. Glad that didn't happen with you, but you might what to check out the latte again, and test to see if the 6 was the peak, or not.

Thank you that does make sence....The Latte was a medium one, just made with milk and I don't know what the coffee was.
I don't think I am getting my diet right and will be glad when I see the nurse in a couple of weeks......
I am pre diabetec and need to loose about a stone, but cannot Excercise as I am disabled...... I don't think I am eating enough, especially at lunchtime.....that's when I get stuck with what to eat, I have never eaten much at lunchtime, but don't know what to replace rivita with......
 
At lunch times I frequently have a small tin of salmon with half a dozen small cherry toms and a pickled onion, or a 2 x egg mayonnaise, cherry toms, and half a Lidl HP roll and butter and a pickled onion, sometimes I add salad leaves but not always (it depends whether my tortoises have eaten them all. Lol.). Once or twice a week I have a fry up (bacon, egg, mushrooms, a tomato and a 97% meat sausage). If you aren't hungry you could have a full fat Greek yogurt with a few berries added, or berries with cream. You could also have a coffee with cream rather than milk.

I wouldn't expect too much from your nurse if she typical of the nurses most of us see. She may well push the NHS Eatwell plate and tell you to eat carbs with every meal. I think you must have gathered by now from this forum that this is not a good idea!

Well you could just eat whatever you usually put on the ryvita and leave out the ryvita?
 
Used to have low fat cheese spread on the rivita, but I do know that's not good. We are away at the moment and there isn't a Lidl near by, because thanks to this forum I have found the protein rolls.....so back to half a roll and full fat spread when we go home.

100g courgette (without skin) mines just scraped with a Julienne slicer and fried.in butter, 100g is a medium size courgette..and about 3.5g carb with 2 soft boiled eggs underneath, cut up. Most people would poach eggs and put on top but I'm hopeless with poaching. Both done in 10mins, so nice and quick too.

Looks a bug plate, but it is a side plate. Filling and nutritious. Avocado sliced in cold in with it is nice too.

Ryvita isn't that bad... Depends how many slices you have but it will be the latte thats worse. Depends how regimented you want to be or whether you allow days off...

Doesn't look very appetising in photo but its gorgeous taste.
 
Or if you want something really quick n easy.
Take out frozen berries from freezer night before and put in bottom of a ramekin. Leave in fridge overnight and add yogurt at lunchtime.

Even better; frozen berries, add double cream and turn the berries and they'll coat, by freezing the cream to themselves. Wait a moment or two and eat. The berries are still a bit crunchy. I prefer them this way to fresh berries, which I now tend to freeze if I'm given them by my neighbour.

It's completely yummy, with a bit of bite.

Why not jut have some cheese... maybe in a bit of ham and ditch the carbs altogether.. or maybe even skip lunch?
