Mince pies used to contain meat - minced, of course - I wonder if there is an antique recipe for those anywhere on the net. Even if they are still fairly high for everyday eating, I doubt they'd clock up 47gm each. Perhaps substituting lower carb ingredients for the pastry might help, as well as rolling it out thin - though it might need to be blind baked to keep it intact.

For me mincemeat like meringues is just one of those things that there is no substitute for, Tesco finest mini mice pies are 12g carbs each so if you really want one and can limit yourself to one treat they may be ok for you - a good dollop of thick double cream may reduce the spike - try and test you may be lucky :)

I bought mince pies from a fancy organic place, Daylesford, while in the Cotswolds yesterday. 22g of carbs each! One on Christmas Day, one on Boxing Day - decided I just can't do a LCHF Christmas Day. I'm generally good, we all deserve treats.

I used an old mincemeat recipe once. It was a delicious combo of sweet and savoury, but it was NOTHING like the modern stuff.

Can't remember where i got the recipe though - must be 25 years ago. :)

Last time I eat "mince pies' was in 1969, my last xmas in the UK.

My mother sent a xmas food parcel cake and mince pies out here to me in Australia to share with my older brother (as if).

However the good old Australian Customs inspected the parcel, and cut off a good slice for further examination. The mince pies were sent away for closer inspection, this was written on the inspection note they include.

There was a nice letter to me later saying the cake was very nice, and please get my mum to send more mince pies next time.

The cake was great, and I did not share with my brother.
