Moderately low blood glucose before meal. Reduce injection? Don't inject?

I'm confused as to whether I should just reduce the dosage of the pen, or not inject at all, when my reading is 4 to 5 before meals. I have been reducing the dosage & this seems to be keeping it within range, but don't know if this is the correct procedure.

What insulin(s) do you take @garrard and what dose is it you're talking about reducing?

4-5mmol/l pre-prandial are absolutely perfect values.

Might be slightly different because I am t1. However, my target is 5.0mmol/like + or - 0.5. Whenever, I inject for food, I take into consideration three things when calculating my dose:
- carbs in food
- current BG
- insulin on board
Thankfully, my pump does most of the calculations. But this is a long winded way of saying, it makes perfect sense to me to lower your insulin dose slightly if your current BG is below your target. Likewise, increase your disease if you are above target (it's called a "corrective dose").

Hi @garrard :)

4 to 5 is a good reading. It's not low. If you need to not inject to stay in range then maybe your mealtime doses need looking at?

When do you test again after eating to find out if you're in range?

What insulins are you on? Can you tell us a little more @garrard ?
