Monitoring

The low carb high fat info is on this forum scroll down the main page to the Low Carb Forum also this site.
Cholesterol will go up as you are eating fat don't worry get the book at the end l give info on (book or kindle) you need the stuff to digest fat. Wont go into it all but it will blow your mind l am about 2/3rds the way through.
Carbs are sugar as are starches LCHF means no bread, potatoes, pasta, rice but all the info is in the low carb forum here in the link and dr Pearlmutters book.

l have no problems going out here is some examples:
This Wednesday night we ate at a friends house he is a diabetic 4x metformin a day bloods all over the place when he has his Hba1c (refuses to test between) eats what he wants scared of neuropathy wont change diet...told him "Enjoy neuropathy when you start cause you will".
Anyhow l digress we had lasagne l scraped the pasta off and ate the meat/cheese part he had my pasta.
Today at Trentham garden centre platter of seafood antipasta for 2 l asked them to take off 1 chunk of bread, swap the caramelised onions and melon for extra olives and roasted courgettes...done
At the pub l just swap things around.
Just tell them you are a diabetic or have a dietary problem and people are fine :)

Get the book Grain Brain by Dr Pearlmutter you wont want to eat sugar or gluten and it is a brilliant easy to understand book or kindle. (l have the kindle is great as the links he gives l can go straight to them and read then back to the book)

What is the problem with gluten Mud. I was unaware it was an issue for diabetics.

I'm not sure I'm ready to give up carbs altogether - but have already limited them. Will have a read.
Thanks
You cant really give them up all together unless you eat nothing but meat. Just try to reduce them. Your meter will tell you what to do.

(Just to say when he gives his diet plan at the end as a T2 you need to avoid some it is based on non diabetic but low carb high fat gluten free...and when he explains cholestrol thats when the jaw hits the floor)

From first section of the book what gluten has been implicated in.... lt has inflamitary effects as does carbs

• ADHD • anxiety and chronic stress • chronic headaches and migraines • depression • diabetes • epilepsy • focus and concentration problems • inflammatory conditions and diseases, including arthritis • insomnia • intestinal problems, including celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, and irritable bowel • memory problems and mild cognitive impairment, frequently a precursor to Alzheimer’s disease • mood disorders • overweight and obesity • Tourette’s syndrome • and much more

Very much tied in with general health also discusses diabetes and how your body works or doesnt. So much l was reading about me it was scary. Also has confirmed hub gluten intolerant he isnt coeliac but needs to avoid gluten

OK so Type 2.

Definitely a good idea to buy a monitor. I don't think there is much difference between any of them other than the cost of the testing strips. The meters themselves are relatively cheap, some are even free. The SD Codefree seems to come out top for cheap strips.

Welcome to the forum, and ask any questions you like. Have you worked out a diet plan for yourself yet?
I have those :)

2 fasting blood test results and the hba1c one.

It was literally 'you have diabetes - go away and change what you eat and do more exercise and we will test you again in 3 months. There is lots of information on the internet as you don't have any family members who have had it'
Hi Carla - much the same as I was told, diagnosed 19th June told I was 7.6 and ideally they would like "6 or even 5" no info to take away with me, nothing mentioned about monitoring..............three days later I joined this fantastic forum, began lchf, got a code free from Amazon and now I feel I AM IN CONTROL and getting somewhere! The past week I'm usually in the 5's on waking, no more than high 6's 2 hours after eating and usually back to 5's within 3 hours, I KNOW this would NOT be the case if I had just plodded on waiting for check ups!! Good luck, keep popping on here and learning- let us know how you go!
