Hi, I am currently using the accu-chek compact meter which I purchased as my doctor was away on holiday and I didn't want to wait for one. I got a call from her today to say that they do not supply the lancets or strips on prescription and that I would need to find a monitor that they could supply on prescription. So can you be of any help to let me know what monitor I should get please?

Why don't you.......
a. Phone the Pharmacy and see what strips are regularly prescribed in your area.
OR
b. Phone and ask the Surgery/Practice what exactly they DO prescribe.
Everywhere has different policies, but basically if it is in the BNF61 (Prescribing Bible) there shouldn't really be any problem. I have changed meters many times over the years and always had what strips I required, no thought of the costs involved to the Practice.

Maybe you could buy a cheap meter in the meantime to tie you over? I've read that they sell them for about 10 or 15 pounds at Boots or Asda? Someone else might be able to give you better information on that but I think you get 50 testing strips with it too. That should give you enough until you can get more from the pharmacy 
Hi, thank you for the replies. The surgery told me I would HAVE to speak to a pharmacist but they are out to lunch. My dad has a spare monitor with lots of strips and lancets so he said I can have that one. Husband is just off to Tesco to buy a new battery for it and then I am set YAY panic over. thank you again

The teststrips that you need for your Accu chek compact plus are available on prescription but your GP may be looking for them on their database using another name. Best thing is to phone Accu chek and ask them to give you the Pip code for them and then write that down on your repeat prescription. All Accu chek stuff is available on prescription and your pharmacy should be able to confirm this.
