Hey all I was just wondering how much your state of mind can affect sugar levels. If you get wound up about something or are going through a bit of a rough patch mentally can this have much affect?

Stu.

For me its the single most damaging effect on my levels. I am going to sell my company and change my life becuase of stress. I am not taking meds and am managing my diabetes by diet BUT when I am stressed at work which is nearly everyday mu numbers shoot up, I get that taste in my mouth, I get wound up more and it all goes wrong. When I have a stress free day and towards the weekend my blood sugars are often normal. So for me the answer to your question is STRESS IS AN ENEMY

Hi pearsall85
yes unfortunatley stress&infections can raise your bs levels, but with time you can get them back on to an even keel.
I lost my lovely brave dad last year.Take care.

It really does affect your levels. If I'm feeling down, my sugars are higher. Even higher if there are tears...

Diabetes type 1.5
Diagnosed September 2011
Currently on basal insulin

I always found both lol, my moods are affected by high/lows, and even when I feel good and get a high/low reading that affects my mood also. trying to stay within range is very difficult to do all day every day but keep on trying.

Yes moods and stress definitely affects BS - however it's all about managing yourself, if you know your going to get a bit stressed then take extra insulin - read up on 'think like a pancreas' gives tips on managing stressful situations. My tip is to not let it get on top of you or give in to it otherwise diabetes will rule your life it's so easy to give in, try meditation that can help too. Just remember if your feeling low your not the only one :D

I'm the same, if I get stressed, I go low very easily. It's the same with any nervous energy for me including anger and tears. My Wife was the first to notice it when I was getting stressed.
I find its very quick on sugar levels too, mine can go from 6 down to 2-3 in a blink, it's weird!
