Hi Everyone

I'm lucky enough to not be diabetic but have been married to a type 1 diabetic for 20 years. The thing is, that although I am very supportive and understanding I increasingly feel I need some support myself, especially given the mood swings that are getting worse so that I now feel as though I'm constantly walking on egg shells and feel very stressed out about everything myself. I repeatedly tell myself that I'm the lucky one - but I really would like to 'chat ' to any other partners and hopefully feel that I'm not alone in this .

Hi suebig and welcome to the forun. Diabetes affects more than just the ones inflicted with the condition and I hope you are successful in your search for other partners who are in the same boat as you.

Diabetes is like another member of the family and certainly affects everyone and not just the person with the condition. You will find quite a few parents here and also partners (maybe not so many). Chat away and vent all your frustrations. Better doing it here than anywhere else.

Hi Suebig and welcome. :)

It is tough being the other half - but this is a good place to let it all out safely. 8)

Personally I was glad/relieved to discover that my mood/temper could be blamed on diabetes.

I won't repeat some of the descriptions my wife uses for me; probably the only one I can repeat before the watershed is "cantankerous old git" ..............but it's usually something much stronger than "git" she uses.

I had been wondering why I had such bad moods with my husband recently. It's nice to know its not my fault but now I would like to know if anyone has an idea how to control this?

Not so sure about this......yes high and low Bg levels can affect your mood. However, sometimes it can be down to many other things. I think we like to find something that we can 'blame.' I am not so sure that Diabetes is always the culprit. Sometimes it is just that you are a sad, cantankerous old git !

Victor Meldrew's of this life are everywhere.......always blaming something, somebody.....anything but themselves.

Sometimes it is who we are......how we view life, how we react to things. I have my moments  I don't blame them on Diabetes. I get depressed about things, life in general, the state of the World, politicians, bad manners, other drivers. There is always something that might put me in a 'mood.' It's just life.......I try to think and stay positive, then life kicks you in the teeth. So just another little hurdle to jump. If you are a negative thinker, then you will stay moody......think positive and you can do anything, beat those moods, enjoy your life.

It's Sunday.......time for reflection. Now, back to that Bacon sarnie !!

Sorry Ken,

I prefer to blame diabetes.

I was a mild mannered ***** cat until my BS soared.
