I need to have more bloods taken in the morning.

A1c Hba1c
LFT Live Function Profile
NFL Lipid Profile (Non-Fasting)
UE Urea & Electrolytes
COAG1 Coagulation Screen

I was told this was a fasting test, however nothing on the form says it is fasting.

If I fast to be on the safe side, and my appointment time is 9am, what is the latest time I can eat something or drink something? Dont think i can make it through the night without fluids :(

When i made the appointment they said fasting, and the last time I had to have fasting bloods I was told nothing to eat or drink for 10 hours before. Just the only thing on the forms are "diabetic check","on statin & on Rx for HTN" & "easy bruising", the only mention of fasting is Non Fastin on the Lipid Profile. The tablets i'm on make me extremely thirsty overnight and i drink anything upto 2 pints of fluid.

Oh dear perhaps this is another example of being told different things by different people. I was told by the nurse that black tea/coffee or water was ok. Maybe I just got lucky. I hope it all goes well for you.

I get told black tea n coffee ok. Nothing for 10hrs though...

I've always been told nothing except water for 12 hours

Oh heck yet more differing advice-lol not!!

Whenever I have a bloodtest done at hospital and fasting needs to be done prior to having a bloodtest, the words 'Fasting' will be in bold at the top right hand side of the A4 bllood test form.

Fasting was always nothing except water for eight hours with us, just to throw another curve ball in there...

If you were told to fast then that's what I'd do Fionamarie, anyway good luck with your results .

I've been told that you can drink water before a fasting test. Also been told that it's ok to take my painkillers etc beforehand. May be best to check with your surgery.

I'm another that has been told that a fasting test is water only after bedtime the day before, so about 10 - 11 hours as my appointments are normally about 9.30 ish. It has also been mentioned that sipping water is better than drinking large amounts. The nurse that takes my blood always asks what I've eaten or had to drink and when, and writes it on the card that goes with the sample.
