Sorry I don't want to sound crude as I don't know how to put this in polite language, sorry! Since being diagnosed as T2 approx 3 months ago I've noticed I sometimes pass waste from my rear end suddenly without warning which is embarrasing to say the least. I have to have loads of clean pants permantly on stand by and use the shower frequently on a daily basis. Other times it just does'nt happen at all and I'm happy as Larry.

Would the 3 x daily 500mg Metaformin I'm currently taking be the culprit do you think?

Thanks folks.

DD

Quite possibly. It can be a problem for some until it settles down.......

You could also ask for the SR version which is supposed to be better.

SR........slow release......same drug just less 'effective' shall we say !

You don't get it 'dumped' all at once.....

I have read several reports of the sudden and unfortunate results of breaking wind when on Metformin.

It supposedly goes away, let's hope so, I think I will be on it next month so I will have to buy some thick underpants.

Hi DD
I had the same problem with Metformin but when I was changed to Gucophage which is a slow release Met I have had no further problems See your GPasap and ask for a change.

If you are having that type of problem, then definitely ask for the slow release, my stomach wasnt happy at all, then I switched and everything was fine.

Deafdiabetic,

Mention this to your gp rather than suffer in silence, it may well be the metformin but it could also be many other things unrelated to your medication, so do go along and discuss this with your doctor, and don't worry they have seen and heard it all before and I am sure they will find out what is causing these unpleasant symptom's. Best wishes.

Hi DD, when I was first diagnosed I took metformin for 6 months which was gradually reduced to zero. It can be easier said than done, but use your observations as an incentive to get off the medication. In the meantime you must speak to your gp. I noticed that even changing manufacturer made a difference, though dont understand why?

all the best Steve
